Frequent Questions
Below are just a few questions we’ve received in the past. If there are any questions here which haven’t been answered, please feel free to contact us at anytime!
THE GAME
How do you actually win?
Every competitor has 6 different ways to win at our events. You can collect all the correct clues and place either first, second, or third. You can have an awesome costume and be voted for first place or runner up OR you could have the best gorilla costume and win that way.
How do I form a team?
Forming a team is pretty easy. On the links above, click “Register” and start filling out the form. Under ‘Gorilla Stuff’ fill out your team name and how many people you feel would be on your team. An approximate is fine, as we’re sure it can increase or decrease. Each teammate has to register individually, and you’re all linked together by your team name.
How do I get to the clues?
Some may walk fast, others will jog, and we expect a few sprints at the finishing line. No bicycles, roller blades, unicycles, hovercraft, helicopters, or auto transportation is allowed with the exception of local public transit.
What are the rules?

What's a sample clue?

Costumes? Huh?
You don’t ever have to wear costumes, but if you decide to do some then we won’t stop you. In fact, if you have the best looking picture, we’ll not only put you on our website, but we’ll also give you a prize!
How long does the race last?
It’ll take an average competitor anywhere between 2 and 3 hours to complete.
What if we can't solve any of your clues?
You’ll be given 12 clues of which you’ll only need to solve 10, and a few of those would be challenges. We hope that helps!
REGISTRATION
What's the minimum/maximum age to participate?
There is none, however we don’t recommend kids in strollers! We’ve had competitors as young as 10 years of age and as fit as 68!
How small or large can a team be?
You can have teams as little as two or as many as a gajillion. Our average winning team is usually between 3 and 5 people.
Do I get anything with registration?
Yep! You’ll get a shirt, your own race bib, discounts on food and beverages, awesome live entertainment (depends on venue), two photon laser guns, and an extremely memorable experience.
Do I have to have a team?
Yes! You absolutely have to have a team registered. It can be as little as two people, and as many as you want. However, we recommend team sizes to hover around 5 people at the max so all your winnings aren’t completely split up!
FEES/VOUCHERS
Do you have a military rate?
Absolutely! Contact us using our Quick Message form to inquire about the military discount in your city.
Do you offer group or corporate discounts?
We sure do! Use the Quick Message form to send us a message with your information and we’ll get back to you right away.
I have a voucher/coupon, how do I register?
Click “Register” on the main menu links and fill out the form. Everyone has to register individually, this way we can keep track of teams and emergency contact information. You’ll see a field that asks, ‘Did you purchase a voucher on another site?’ Click the drop-down box and select ‘Yes’. Another box will appear and that’s where you enter your voucher number.
I bought a voucher from a coupon site, do I still need to register?
Yes! We need your emergency contact information, your team info, shirt sizes and much more. Please register ahead of time, otherwise there is no guarantee that your spot will be held. Purchasing a voucher doesn’t guarantee your registration, but it does mean you’ve already paid!
Our registration varies from city to city, but it generally costs $50 a person.
Can we get a refund?
Sorry, unfortunately we don’t offer refunds. However, you can get your registration transferred to another city or the next event in your town.

I have a group of high school kids... do I get any special treatment for working with young people?
Yes, you definitely do. For youth groups ages 17 and below register your entire team and pay for all, except the chaperones. For every 5 young people registered on the team we allow one chaperone in for free, compliments of Gorilla Challenge. Once the team is registered, send us a message using our Quick Message form with all the chaperone names and the team name. Thanks for your hard work and helping out in your community!
What time should I get there?
We recommend that you plan to arrive at the starting point an hour and a half to two hours prior to the race to check-in, get acclimated, stretch, make some gorilla noises (optional), and get all your questions out of the way so you’re mentally prepared at take-off.
I'd like to bring my infant, my toddler, a stroller, a diaper genie, and the crib... what's your suggestion?
We’d say, leave the diaper genie and the crib behind. Bringing an infant or a toddler on the Challenge is not prohibited, but we would HIGHLY recommend against it. There is always the danger that they could trip and fall, or you could trip and fall while running with them. In your rush to get to the clues, you may run into an intersection, or forget them somewhere, etc. etc. We know it may not seem likely, buuuuuuuuuuuttttt…. well you get the idea
Also, anyone 9 and under isn’t required to pay registration, but we also won’t have any shirts for them
What should I bring?
All you need to bring is yourself, a camera (one per team), a water bottle, comfortable clothing, and tennis shoes.
What should I wear?
Comfortable shoes and clothing and sunblock if necessary.
What kind of a camera do I need?
We ask that you have only one camera per team to keep all the pictures organized. It can be a cell phone camera or a regular digital camera.
I'm not in shape, and I really don't care to run. Should I still compete?
Yep! You don’t have to jog, sprint, run, or do backflips. Most people walk briskly, and some even chart out a strategy before seeking all the clues. The fun is in the challenging clues, identifying them, finishing the competition, and just enjoying yourself.
How can I get Gorilla Challenge to my city?

Any tips for success?
The Gorilla Challenge is a combination of both physical and mental challenge. The key to winning this challenge, will be solving the clues, mapping them out, and taking the shortest distance to all of them. Most of all, avoid the temptation of running around without a plan!
What do we do in case of inclement weather?
If the local weather service predicts inclement weather or unbearable rain, we’ll reschedule in advance. In addition to a notice on our website, you’ll be notified through email about the change of date to which your registration will automatically transfer over.
How do we get a hold of you?
